GIFT’s Associate Professor Michelle Whitford and Associate Professor Lisa Ruhanen from UQ presented at the Creating Tracks in Tourism Industry Day  – the 7th Annual QTIC Tourism Indigenous Employment Forum. The forum brings together business leaders, employers, government representatives, tourism organisations, native title holders and community organisations to discuss important issues, opportunities and strategies for supporting Indigenous tourism growth and Indigenous employment across the state.

Michelle and Lisa also attended the Inaugural Quandamooka Cruise to North Stradbroke Island.  The cruise – from Meeanjin to Minjerribah – is an opportunity to discover and take part in some Aboriginal cultural experiences including didgeridoo playing, traditional weaving and Jandai language. Guests were greeted by a traditional smoking ceremony, Quandamooka dance performance and walked the Goompi trail, with a Quandamooka traditional owner who shared stories of culture, country and people.
