Associate Professor Leigh Shutter from the Griffith School of Environment was awarded an Australia-Japan Foundation Grant last month.

This grant will support for in-depth research and record technology of the historic laneways in Osaka project that is collaborating with the Osaka Institute of Technology.

Associate Professor Leigh Shutter had recently completed the associated project of urban morphology and heritage study of Enning Road in Guangzhou, China in February this year.

This project has been helpful for building a cross-cultural educational platform forming the basis for an urban morphology and heritage study.

From the previous project, it had introduced new 3D laser mapping technologies developed by Australia to Australian and Chinese architectural students, and its 3D scanner outputted a realistic 3D virtual model of the streets and their architecture.

Founded on the recent Guangzhou project, Professor Shutter said this upcoming Osaka project will support a continuous historical research on studying cultural heritage as the previous project did show the outcome.
