The July workshop looked at how political ideas translate into legal, social management and security system policy and reform in the Xi Jinping era. Participants discussed how, over the last five years, the Xi administration has further strengthened party leadership over state organs through reforms which are underpinned by socialist political and legal ideology.

Presenting at the workshop was Rowan Callick, Griffith Asia Institute Industry Fellow and renowned journalist, Dr Delia Lin, Senior Lecturer in the Asia Institute at the University of Melbourne, Sang Ye writer and journalist and Professor Sue Trevaskes (workshop convenor), Professor of Chinese Studies in the School of Humanities, Languages and Social Sciences and ARC grant recipient.
