Missing, messy or inconsistent data can easily undermine your analysis, but by learning a few simple processes, you can cut down the time and effort you spend cleaning data and get to the exciting part—figuring out what your data is telling you.
Our upcoming workshops will provide you with the data wrangling skills you need to standardise that messy data:
Introduction to Data Wrangling using OpenRefine

OpenRefine is a free, open-source tool to explore, clean, organise, combine and transform data. It’s particularly powerful when working with large datasets that tools like Excel can‘t manage. Plus, it helps you ‘see’ your data. You don’t need to know how to code and no prior software knowledge is required.
The online, hands-on introductory workshop includes basic data cleaning techniques such as:
- Exploring columns of data through facets and filters
- Implementing ‘tidy data’ principles
- Cleaning, organising and preparing data for analysis
- Creating reusable scripts to perform the same tasks on similar data.

Once you‘ve learned the basics, our advanced workshop will help you combine, geolocate and perform ‘what if’ exploration of data in tables:
