We’ve heard you: Changes to after-hours Library access
Many students have told us that they value the Library as a safe, quiet and productive place to study, particularly during the busy lead-up to exams. We’ve also received feedback about visitors in library spaces after staffed hours, which has affected some students’ ability to study comfortably and confidently.
You spoke, and we listened.
From Wednesday 30 September access arrangements at the Gold Coast Library will change to help create a safer and more secure study environment for Griffith students.
What’s changing?
Library staff are available until 5pm each weekday. After 5pm, entry to the library will be restricted to Griffith students and staff using their approved swipe access
This means:
- the library will remain available for eligible Griffith students after 5pm
- you will need to use your 24/7 access credentials to enter the building after 5pm
- level 3 study spaces will continue to be available until 8pm Monday to Friday.
Why are we making this change?
Over recent months, students have raised concerns about non-Griffith visitors remaining in the library after staffed hours and accessing areas reserved for Griffith students. We have worked with the Campus Support team and Campus Life to review options and identify a solution that balances access, safety and security.
Restricting entry after 5pm will help ensure library spaces remain available for Griffith students while maintaining access to study facilities during the evening.
Don’t have 24/7 access yet?
If you plan to use the library after 5pm, please make sure your 24/7 access is activated before the changes take effect.
Signage and reminders will be displayed throughout the library over the coming week to help students prepare for the transition.
We’ll be monitoring the change
We know access to study spaces is important, especially during peak assessment periods. We’ll continue to monitor the impact of these changes and gather feedback from students to ensure the library remains a safe, welcoming and accessible place to study.
