In 2023 the Griffith University Repair Café Initiative held six fantastic events where our volunteers and community came together to repair and share.

This Trimester we will be delivering more Repair Cafés but…

What are Repair Cafés?

Simply, they are events where you can bring your broken items and have them repaired by skilled fixers.  Or if you have repairing skills share your repair skills and knowledge as you repair items.

The aim of our Repair Cafés is to reduce waste and save money by repairing common household, electronic and clothing items and preventing these items ending up in landfill.  Repair Cafés are also a place to promote the importance of Repair and Reuse in our move to a more environmentally sustainable future. It is also a great way to meet fellow sustainability champions and build community!

How our Repair Cafés work.

Do you have repair skills like:

  • sewing and mending
  • jewellery making/repair
  • shoe repair skills
  • woodworking skills
  • mechanical and electronic devices repair
  • or any other repair skill!

Then you can volunteer to be a fixer and join a great group of students, staff and community repairers and attend our Repair Café events across the Trimester.

If you don’t think you have fixer skills, you can help by being part of our helper community at one of our Cafés.

Your time is appreciated, so you do not need to commit to the whole time – giving an hour or so would be fabulous!
