Griffith University researchers are partnering with industry to address the health-related problems people face before, during and after disasters.
From improving community resilience for health-related events to future proofing hospitals to be more resilient, researchers from Griffith University’s Health Group recently showcased their research projects and industry collaborations.
The one-day forum focused on the common themes of enhancing decision support for healthy communities and health outcomes.
Topics related to health and heat (Chu, Matthews, Rutherford), flood risk (Dwirahmadi), and disaster resilient hospitals and health services (Mohtday Ali, Cooke, Gan).
Our researchers are connected to larger collaborative networks, such as the Healthy Environments and Lives Network, the World Health Organization, and the Climate and Health Alliance.
The research presented algins to the global priorities within the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, particularly reducing global disaster mortality and reducing the number of affected people globally.
Research presentations included:
- Prof Cordia Chu: Protecting the at-risk populations from extreme heat through a settings-based community of practice framework
- Dr Tony Matthews and A/Prof Shannon Rutherford: The Queensland Heat-Health Community of Practice
- Dr Heba Mohtady Ali: Towards Disaster Resilient Hospitals
