Wiley Gold open access publishing cap expected to be reached by November

Wiley fully open access publishing cap

Open access publishing in Wiley’s Gold open access journals is expected to reach its annual article allocation by early November. You can track the projected cap usage on CAUL’S cap tracker.

This does not affect open access publishing in Wiley’s hybrid journals. Eligible authors may continue to publish open access in hybrid journals as there is unlimited coverage.

To check whether a journal is hybrid or fully open access, review CAUL’s title list.

What does this mean for authors?

Once the cap is reached, and until 1 January 2027, articles accepted for publication in Wiley Gold journals will not be eligible for publication without payment of an article processing charge (APC).

If an article is accepted after the cap is reached this year, authors will need to use research funds or another funding source to cover the APC for publication.  The article will not be carried over and funded by the 2027 article allowance.
