Collection Spotlight: Emcare—A Hidden Gem for Health Students

Heading towards your final assessments and worried about where to find those peer-reviewed articles you need to do well?

You’ve tried Google Scholar. You’ve asked AI. But you’re still not quite finding what you need. You vaguely remember a lecturer or librarian mentioning something called a ‘database’, but you can’t quite recall what a ‘database’ actually is.

Worry no more—the Library is here to help! Databases are collections of academic resources, bringing together loads of high-quality information in one place. In other words, they’re the best place to look when you need academic sources for an assignment.

One database you might not have heard of that’s worth exploring is Emcare. It focuses on nursing and allied health research and features a wealth of relevant peer-reviewed literature. Don’t be intimidated by the unfamiliar interface. Check out our Prepare to search page, put the keywords from your assignment question in the search box, hit enter and see where your search takes you!

Whilst Emcare is a great option for nursing and allied health topics, it’s only one example. We provide access to hundreds of databases covering all disciplines. You’ll find database recommendations for your area of study in our Library guides, connecting you to the best resources for your research needs.

Need a hand? Submit a request form—our librarians love helping students develop effective search strategies and make finding quality sources much easier.

Happy searching!
