A glow up for GRO, Griffith’s institutional repository

You might say Griffith’s institutional repository, Griffith Research Online (GRO), has had a glow up. This isn’t just a makeover, it adds great functionality too. 
 
GRO is a digital archive of materials created by authors affiliated with Griffith, providing free access to full-text versions where this is possible with the appropriate permissions of copyright owners.  
 
The Library has recently launched several new features to GRO’s interface to make it easier to see what research is freely and openly available and what re-use license applies. We’ve also created new information pages to help researchers and the public find information about adding and accessing research on GRO. 
 
1. Open access labels 
To quickly identify whether GRO holds a free version of a publication, we’ve added some new labels. Now, you can see at a glance whether GRO holds a copy of the research that you can download and re-use (open access), download and read (free access) or whether we’re still working on sourcing a file (metadata only). 

 

2. New information pages 
You’ll now see a ‘More information‘ tab in the top navigation bar. Here, we’ve created six new pages that provide information on GRO—from how to navigate the repository, to what research we collect and how we strive to support open access. These pages also provide handy links to knowledge articles with information on depositing to GRO and requesting access to mediated datasets.

 

3. Abbreviating Creative Commons licences 
We’ve finally said goodbye to the big and clunky Creative Commons license URLs displayed on open access research outputs—now, the Creative Commons license type is clearly and concisely displayed in abbreviated form.
