Exams ahead? Make the Library part of your plan

With exams fast approaching, now is the time to get organised and avoid last-minute panic. The Library is here to help with spaces, resources and study support throughout the exam period.

Here are some simple, effective ways to get exam-ready and make smart use of the Library while you do it.

Find your spot before everyone else does

The Library is in high demand during exams. If you study best with a small group, book a study room or arrive earlier than you think you need to.

Students who plan their study location in advance spend far less time wandering around looking for a spot.

Don’t just reread notes, test yourself

One of the most effective ways to study is to practise recalling information. Try:

  • flashcards
  • creating your own practise questions
  • summarising topics without looking at your notes
  • teaching a concept to someone else.

This kind of active revision sticks far better than just re-reading.

Use short, focused study blocks

Long cram sessions can feel productive, but they don’t support memory well. Aim for 40–50 minute study sessions with short breaks. You’ll retain more and feel less drained.

When you get stuck, don’t lose an hour

If a concept isn’t clicking, don’t sit with it hoping it will.

Check your course readings, get in touch with your lecturer or tutor, or ask the Library to help you find clearer explanations and better resources.

Getting unstuck quickly keeps your study momentum going.

Look after the basics

Sleep, food, water and short breaks directly affect how well you can focus and recall information in the exam.

Need support?

If exams are starting to feel overwhelming, support is available:

You don’t have to do exams alone. The Library is here to help make this period more manageable before, during and after exams.
