Discover our new Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander collection!

The Library is excited to announce a brand-new collection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander resources. Come in and check out the wide range of beloved classics, modern masterpieces from the likes of Melissa Lucashenko, kids picture books about Dreamtime stories and life on Country, and YA non-fiction about fascinating topics like Australia’s First scientists.

Some titles we’re excited to dive into include:

  • When the World was Soft – these Yindjibarndi creation stories by Juluwarlu Group Aboriginal Corporation are presented in a beautifully-illustrated comic book format.
  • A Savage Turn by Luke Patterson, an acclaimed collection of poetry by a Gamilaroi writer.
  • Close to the Subject by Daniel Browning, a collection of works by an award-winning journalist covering decades of First Nations arts and culture

The collection spans a diverse range of formats, including non-fiction and fiction, poetry, children’s and young adult literature, language and cultural revitalisation resources, maps, games, educational materials and creative works. Together, these resources reflect the diversity, strength, creativity and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across Country.

This collection is a commitment to prioritising materials created by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander authors and organisations, and has a strong emphasis on Queensland and South East Queensland communities ensuring that local voices, authority and perspectives remain central.

The collections are available to browse and borrow at Nathan, Logan and Gold Coast campus libraries, where you’ll find them displayed near our yarning circles. You can also discover the resources through the Library catalogue.
