Publishing open access (OA) allows your research to be freely available online to anyone. Your work can reach a wider audience and be adapted and reused by others with appropriate attribution.

Many Griffith researchers can publish OA without paying article processing charges thanks to publishing agreements we have with several major publishers. These agreements are negotiated nationally by the Council of Australasian University Librarians (CAUL).

What’s new?

Several new agreements have recently been signed, giving researchers more opportunities to publish OA than ever before. Highlights include:

  • a comprehensive agreement with Taylor & Francis, with expanded support for both fully open access and hybrid journals
  • an agreement with Elsevier, marking a substantial shift towards fair, sustainable and transparent access to research
  • renewed agreements with Springer Nature and Wiley, enabling greater OA publishing opportunities than in previous years.

What researchers need to know

OA publishing is not automatic. Make sure you understand:

  • which publishers and journals are covered
  • any limitations, caps or exclusions
  • eligibility criteria.

Not all journals are included, even within participating publisher portfolios.

How to check your options

Explore the range of OA publishing options on the Library’s open access publishing webpage. Use the GRAPA Journal Finder tool to check whether a journal is included and filter by subject area or quartile.

You must also review details for individual agreements on the CAUL read and publish agreements guide. This guide will be updated as more details become available. Revisit it regularly to ensure you have the latest information.
