Exams can feel overwhelming—but with the right approach, you can face them with confidence. Whether it’s your first trimester or your final year, a little planning and self-care can make a big difference.

Plan ahead

Set yourself up for success by creating a balanced plan that includes:

  • Study time – Break your subjects into manageable chunks.
  • Rest and recharge – A well-rested body and mind can work more effectively.
  • Movement and mates – Make time for exercise and social catch-ups to stay mentally well.
  • Set achievable goals. Focus on progress, not perfection—and remember, one tough day doesn’t define your whole trimester.

Study actively

Active study beats passive reading every time. Try these techniques:

  • Summarise and consolidate your notes instead of copying them word-for-word.
  • Use visuals like mind maps, diagrams or flashcards.
  • Teach someone else – if you can explain it, you understand it.
  • Do practice exams under timed conditions to build confidence.

Stay motivated

Staying focused and motivated can be tough—but there are ways to keep your momentum:

  • Study with a friend who helps you stay on track.
  • Celebrate small wins to keep your spirits up.
  • Practice self-compassion – speak to yourself with encouragement, not criticism.
  • Look after yourself – physically and mentally.
