Sharing your subscription-based publications can be tricky, but the Library is here to make it simple. We’ll help you navigate publisher policies so your research can reach as wide an audience as possible.
Publishers usually have specific policies that govern how and where you can share your work. Many support green open access, also known as ‘self-archiving’. This involves making a version of your article, typically the accepted manuscript, freely available in an approved repository-after an embargo period set by the publisher.
You can usually find these policies on the publisher’s website or by using the Open Policy Finder tool (formerly Sherpa Romeo).
Here’s where it gets easier: many publishers allow green open access through institutional repositories like Griffith Research Online (GRO). When you deposit your research to GRO, the Library takes care of the rest—we’ll check the publisher’s article-sharing policy for you!
Once we confirm that green open access is permitted, we’ll:
- source the correct version of your article (we may contact you if needed)
- upload it to GRO
- apply the appropriate copyright licence and embargo period
- ensure full compliance with the publisher’s requirements.
Depositing to GRO saves you time, eliminates confusion, and helps get your paywalled research into the hands of the public, easily and legally.
