What comes to mind when you think of a research output? For many, it’s a peer-reviewed journal article, a book or a conference paper. But have you explored the vibrant world of non-traditional research outputs (NTROs)? You may’ve already engaged with one—without even realising it!

NTROs encompass a wide range of research, including films, music compositions, artworks, performances and exhibitions. And they’re not just limited to the humanities, arts and social sciences. NTROs play a significant role in disciplines as diverse as design, health, education and built environment.

In some fields, such as visual arts, performing arts and creative writing, NTROs now make up the majority of research outputs. They challenge traditional ideas of scholarly research, offering unique and accessible ways to engage with knowledge.
