Your first uni assignment can feel daunting, but don’t worry, the Library is here to help! If you’re unsure how to begin, follow these simple steps to help get you started.

Step 1: Understand your assignment question

  • look at the Learning@Griffith course site’s assessment information to identify the due date, length, weighting and format
  • review the marking criteria to see what is expected and how much each section is worth
  • break down your task into questions to focus your research and writing.

Step 2: Find scholarly resources

  • identify keywords from your topic to create a search statement
  • search in the Library catalogue, databases and Google Scholar to find high-quality literature
  • ensure the sources are credible and relevant to your assignment.

Step 3: Write with academic style

  • use a formal tone, structure and style
  • make your writing clear, concise and succinct
  • integrate your sources with correct referencing to support your arguments.
