Did you know that humanity is responsible for generating 2.1 billion tonnes of municipal solid waste each year?  And this is expected to increase 70% by 2050?

World Cleanup Day (WCD), this Friday 20 September, is a call for urgent action against the rising tide of waste.

WCD encourages us to clean up our local areas and aims to inspire lasting changes in waste creation and management. It empowers individuals to take responsibility for their waste and urges governments and corporations to implement solutions to the global waste crisis.

Aligned with WCD’s mission, Griffith conducts impactful research on waste management.

Check out a snapshot of that research below and visit Griffith Research Online (GRO), Griffith’s institutional repository, to discover more.

Ready to get involved in WCD 2024? You can join a cleanup event in your local area or organise your own.

See the World Cleanup Day website to find out how.

Griffith is proud to produce world-class research contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals
