Does the idea of public speaking make you nervous? You’re not alone! But with the expert advice of the Library, you can turn that anxiety into confidence. Soon, you’ll be presenting like a pro! Here are some of our key tips to help make delivering presentations for your assignments easy:

  • Understand your task and audience
Ensure you fully understand the assessment task and marking criteria. Also consider who your audience is and what they already know, and what they need to learn from your presentation.
  • Manage nervousness
It’s normal to feel nervous before a presentation, but there are ways to manage it. Channel your nervous energy into enthusiasm for your topic. Techniques like deep breathing, positive self-talk, and focusing on the core message you want to convey can also help to calm your nerves.
  • Practice, practice, practice!
Practice helps you become more familiar with your content, allowing you to speak more confidently. Pay attention to your pacing to ensure you cover all key points without rushing or exceeding the time limit. Also, practice verbal elements such as volume and clarity, as well as non-verbal elements like eye contact, posture, and facial expressions.
  • Use visuals aids
Visual aids like PowerPoint slides can greatly enhance your presentation and help to focus the attention of your audience. Keep your slides visually engaging but avoid cluttering them with too much information. Instead, just highlight the key points that you’ll elaborate on as you speak.

Each opportunity you get to present is a chance to refine your technique and become a more effective communicator. Don’t be afraid to seek feedback and continuously work on the areas where you feel you need improvement. Before you know it, you’ll be delivering powerful presentations with ease!
