Are you taking advantage of open access agreements?

Publishing your journal articles open access means that anyone can access your research for free. This not only enhances the visibility and discoverability of your publications, potentially leading to increased attention and citations, but also contributes to more equitable global access to knowledge.

However, open access publishing often requires an article processing charge (APC). To help offset these costs, Griffith has established Read and publish agreements with publishers, including Elsevier, SAGE and Cambridge University Press. These agreements enable researchers to publish open access without needing to pay the APC.

‘I am excited to be able to have an article published through open access because it will be freely accessible for anyone to read, making my research more accessible to anyone who is interested…’

PhD Candidate, AEL.

Key points:

  • Agreements exclude some journal titles. Visit the Read and publish agreements web page to find each publisher’s included titles.
  • Colour printing charges may still apply and authors remain responsible for these costs.
  • Some publishers have a cap on the number of articles included in the agreement. Refer to the ‘Status of current caps‘ tab for each publisher.
  • Wiley, SpringerNature and Taylor & Francis caps will be met soon.
  • Standard open access charges apply when publishing caps are reached, but note that many agreements have no, or very generous, caps.

How to take advantage:

  1. Check the relevant publisher’s title list to see if your journal is included.
  2. Use your Griffith affiliation and email when submitting if you’re the corresponding author.
  3. Select a CC BY publication licence.
