Fascinating new research outputs are regularly being added to Griffith’s Creative Works repository. A recent addition is Seasonal, an exhibition curated by Dr Kaya Barry. It tells the stories of the everyday lives of seasonal farm workers through their own photography.

‘Little is known about the contemporary migrant farm worker experience in Australia. Their voices are often left out of policy and public debates on the futures of immigration programs and the agricultural industry, yet they are the backbone of many rural and regional places’.

The exhibition enabled seasonal workers to express themselves creatively while documenting their everyday lives. It also gave locals the opportunity to better know the workers who live temporarily in their communities.

ABC’s Landline aired a segment on Seasonal in June 2024. It featured the impact of Dr Barry’s research on one worker, Nunes Da Costa Barreto, from Timor-Leste, who was inspired to buy his own camera and become a professional photographer.
