At uni you might need to deliver a presentation as part of your assessment. This could be an individual or group presentation, delivered in-person, online or as a pre-recorded video. Learning how to successfully deliver a presentation will not only help you to score top marks for your assessment, but it will also prepare you for any presentations you might do in the workplace.
When preparing your presentation use the task requirements and marking criteria to guide you. You will need to think about:
- your audience – what do they already know and what do they need to know
- the structure of the presentation, ensuring it has an introduction, body and conclusion
- whether informal or formal language and tone is required
- the setting for your presentation and any preparation required, such as recording and editing video for the presentation.
You may also need to prepare a visual aid, such as a PowerPoint, to accompany your presentation. Effective and engaging visual aids will have relevant information and images, a limited amount of text and a consistent style throughout.
Before the presentation spend some time practicing to ensure your presentation runs smoothly, concentrating on verbal elements such as volume and pace, and non-verbal elements such as eye-contact and posture.
