Griffith Library celebrated the contribution of two of its Open Research Champions at Nathan Library on 2 February.  Professors Wendy Moyle and Paul Burton were warmly welcomed as champions by Griffith’s Deputy University Librarian Craig Milne, who MC’ed the event.

Dr Jessica Paynter and Dr Frank Sainsbury, our other two Open Research Champions, were unable to attend, but you can see the contributions of all four Champions in the series of interviews about open research on our website.

Belinda Weaver explained the genesis of the Champions program, starting with Griffith’s commitment to an Open Research Statement in 2020. The Library convened an Open Research Reference Group to operationalise the statement by developing appropriate advice on how to practise open research. The reference group helped Library staff understand all the different concerns academics had about sharing their work.

Paul and Wendy shared their own ideas about open research and urged people to watch the videos to learn more. Wendy thanked the Library for initiating the project.

The Library can advise on all aspects of making research open, whether that be publishing in an open access journal, depositing data in an open repository, or taking advantage of Read and Publish agreements to make work open.
