With cost of living and environmental concerns at the forefront of many people’s minds, now is a great time to consider ways in which we can save money and save items from landfill. Saturday 15 October is International Repair Day, a day to promote and celebrate the value of fixing our belongings instead of throwing them away. The theme for 2022 is Repair Everywhere, and the Open Repair Alliance is encouraging people of all skill levels to try their hand at fixing or maintaining household items. You can find a list of planned International Repair Day events and other resources on the Open Repair website.
How can I get involved?
Did you know that staff and students from Griffith University are establishing our very own Repair Café? If you are handy at mending things and would like to contribute your time and skills, you can express your interest by completing a Griffith Repair Café Volunteer Form.
Check out the Repair Café website to find out more about this international network of community menders, and our 2021 interview with Professor Leanne Wiseman about the Right to Repair movement.
