Student retention is a key focus for Griffith University. Our objective for the coming months will be ensuring that international students feel supported and have a positive student experience at Griffith.

To help students feel ready to begin their studies, below are some tips to ensure they get the most out of their first trimester at Griffith.

Organise accommodation prior to departure

It is vital that international students organise their accommodation prior to arrival in Australia. Accommodation in Brisbane and the Gold Coast is in high demand currently, and we are encouraging students to look at their options early.

More information about student accommodation options can be found in the following communications:

Prepare for arrival

Helping to ease the transition on arrival, Griffith offers a free airport pickup service from the Brisbane and Gold Coast airports to take international students to their pre-arranged accommodation.

Please note: Airport pickup can only be booked after a Confirmation of Enrolment has been issued.

Set up myOrientation

myOrientation provides a personalised step-by-step journey to help students with tasks such as:

  • enrolling
  • getting a student ID card
  • accessing our online systems
  • committing to a safe and inclusive campus
  • planning and attending O-Week.

Students can access myOrientation once they have activated their Griffith University portal. Details on how to activate are contained in their welcome email titled “Starting@Griffith”.

Attend Orientation

Orientation Week (O-Week) is when we welcome new students to Griffith and help them get settled in. O-Week is usually held the week before lectures and classes start each trimester.
O-Week is a great opportunity for students to:

  • meet new people and make new friends
  • get comfortable with campus facilities and class locations
  • pick up their student ID card
  • make sure they are correctly enrolled
  • participate in study skills workshops
  • attend important academic sessions to help you to get ready for classes
  • generally have fun.

More information about the importance of attending O-Week can be found on our website.
