Lachlan Pendragon, 26-year-old Griffith student, has achieved the ultimate (and still surreal) goal for a student filmmaker—to have his PhD project nominated for an Academy Award.

Lachlan’s short film was eligible for a nomination after winning a series of student awards such as the Student Academy Award, and the Best Australian Short Film at the Melbourne International Film Festival.

Out of 80 short films that were submitted for consideration this year, Lachlan’s short was one of the five films nominated to take the big prize home.

The film is 15 minutes of delightful, wacky and endearing storytelling and truly showcases the talent and ideas coming out of Griffith Film School.

“When you make a student film, it’s not really something that’s on the table,” says Lachlan, who is still feeling “very overwhelmed” by everything and not sure yet who he will be taking with him to the big event. We are sure there will be plenty of volunteers!

Congratulations to Lachlan and everyone in the Griffith Film School involved on this film.
