The Griffith Mates have just wrapped up a successful Orientation Week for Trimester 2, offering a variety of events and activities across the Gold Coast, Nathan and South Bank campuses, and in the online space at Griffith University.

Throughout Orientation Week, the Griffith Mates collectively and successfully welcomed our new commencing international students, with over 1200 recorded interactions at the Welcome Booths, Campus Tours, Twilight Tours, International Student Mixer events, Virtual Welcome Booths and the ‘How to Improve your English at Griffith University‘ workshop.

Nine on-campus International Student Welcome Sessions took place across the Gold Coast, Nathan and South Bank, which were facilitated and hosted by the Griffith Mates. These sessions provide key information to new commencing international students from the Student Experience staff, to ensure a smooth and successful journey at Griffith. The Griffith Mates also facilitated interactive games at these sessions, and shared their student life advice and tips to the commencing cohort.

The core function of the Griffith Mates is to make arrivals and transitions easier for students, by offering a wide range of opportunities to Griffith International students, ensuring they integrate successfully into the community and have the opportunity to make friends and connections, and feel comfortable and confident at Griffith.

Over Trimester 2 the Griffith Mates will be offering a varied program of events and they strongly encourage all new commencing and current international students to get involved. These free and low cost activities include a day trip to Australia Zoo, an International Night event where students can celebrate and showcase their diverse cultures, Mates Builder social events on campus, Online networking events, various volunteer opportunities, morning teas, professional development workshops and a mindfulness session throughout exam block to destress.
