The Department of Home Affairs recently announced that online study will count towards the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) Post-Study Work Rights, and that the Government will recommence granting student visas in all locations lodged outside Australia. This means when borders re-open, students will already have visas and be able to make arrangements to travel.

Given these updates to the Temporary Graduate visa, Griffith is pleased that international students whose studies have been affected by the restrictions enforced due to COVID-19 will not be disadvantaged when applying for their Temporary Graduate visa.

As Griffith is teaching Trimester 2 and Trimester 3 online this year, we are offering international students the option to start studying online and then join us on campus when it is safe to do so. We have a cohort of students from Trimester 1 and 2 having already commenced their studies online with Griffith, and others now preparing for Trimester 3. We are pleased to reassure these students, and any others who are thinking of starting their studies with Griffith in 2020, that this study will be recognised in their Temporary Graduate visa application.

Students starting their studies online are enrolled in exactly the same degree as if they were studying here on campus, and have full access to Griffith’s support services. It’s a great option for students wanting to get a head start on their degree and connect with their fellow peers before they arrive in Australia.
