Griffith Health has recently introduced a “Fit for Professional Practice” framework that replaces the  “Fit for Placement” requirements. The new framework is aimed at enhancing student opportunities in relation to a range of professional development areas including part-time work and Work Integrated Learning, as well as meeting placement requirements.

Students should be aware of the requirements that relate to their specific degree.  These requirements may include police checks, First Aid and CPR certificates, and vaccinations.  For most students these requirements can be met during their first trimester of study. While some requirements, including First Aid and CPR training, can only be completed once the student is in Australia through an Australian Nationally Accredited Course.  However, some vaccination schedules can take several months so it is good to get onto those as early as possible.

Key Points:

  1. For most Health programs, Fit for Professional Practice requirements are due to be submitted during the first trimester of study so theses are not a barrier to accepting the offer and enrolling in the program.
  2. Even though the students have a trimester to complete the requirements it is still a good idea to get onto this early to prevent issues arising if the student puts things off for too long.
  3. Occasionally there may be tighter time-frames, particularly when a student has Credit for Prior Learning and may be entering the program at a point where there are placements already happening.
  4. All requirements and how to meet them are listed under the specific degrees on the Fit for Professional Practice website
