Trimester 1 is about to start and Griffith English Language Institute has transitioned another cohort of students into their Griffith University or Griffith College program via the Direct Entry Program (DEP). DEP enables students requiring IELTS 6.0, 6.5 and 7.0 to enter their program without needing to submit a proficiency test result.

224 students passed DEP in December 2019 and February 2020 to enter programs in Trimester 1. Griffith International acknowledges excellent performance by awarding a $1,000 Direct Entry Program (DEP) Scholarship to the highest performing DEP student in each cohort who is progressing to a Griffith undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree, and we congratulate the following scholarship winners:

·  Pichayaporn Watcharapanich, Thailand, Master of International Tourism and Hospitality Management
·  Jiang Tiantian, China, Master of Education
·  Agustina Coll Benegas, Argentina, Master of Human Resource Management/Master of International Business
·    Sovankiry Hang, Cambodia, Bachelor of Business

Brisbane December DEP graduate Pichayaporn Watcharapanich receives her DEP Scholarship award from Rick Chapman, Director, International Marketing

Ms Watcharapanich studied at GELI for 10 weeks.  From the very first day, she stood out from the crowd. She was engaged and interested in all that GELI and Griffith has to offer, and did her best to create as many connections as possible for the future.

Gold Coast December DEP Scholarship winner Jiang Tiantian (centre) receives her award from Barbara-Anne Long, Associate Director, International Administration and David Eccles, GELI Assistant Director of Studies.

Ms Jiang studied at GELI for 15 weeks.  She was a model student in all ways, diligent in her studies and always keen to learn how she could improve.  What really set her apart was her willingness to help others, and her classmates who were struggling with listening and writing tasks were supported by her in positive ways.

Brisbane February DEP Scholarship winner Sovankiry Hang (2nd from right) cuts the DEP graduation cake with the dux Riko Furuta (2nd from left), Maysie Procianos, Manager, International Admissions (right) and guest speaker Dr Tapan Sarker (left)

Mr Hang studied at GELI for 15 weeks. His teachers described him as one of the most organised students they have come across. He shows strong leadership qualities and would make a great Griffith Mate so that he can support and mentor other international students.

Gold Coast winner Agustina Coll Benegas receives her DEP Scholarship award from David Eccles, GELI Assistant Director of Studies

Agustina studied at GELI for 10 weeks. She was friendly, conscientious, inquisitive and supportive of other students. She always asked questions when not sure of a grammar point or vocabulary, and would apply the feedback she was given.
