Professor Christopher Barner-Kowollik, ARC Laureate Fellow and Chair for Material Chemistry at QUT confirmed as keynote speaker for the 2017 German Science and Innovation Day.

Both Australia and Germany have long traditions in scientific excellence and it is time for a substantial joint thrust to tackle the overarching challenges in energy, health and ecological viability. The opening address will highlight with specific examples how strong scientific partnerships can be forged with government and private sector support as well as provide action points for joint initiatives building on the recommendations of the report of the 2015 Australian-German advisory group.

Christopher Barner-Kowollik received a PhD in Physical Chemistry in 1999 (Göttingen University). After postdoctoral research with Prof. Tom Davis and academic positions at the Centre for Advanced Macromolecular Design at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, he was appointed Full Professor of Polymer Chemistry in 2006 at the same institution. From 2008 he held the chair for Macromolecular Chemistry at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), and is currently chair for Materials Chemistry at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and a group leader at the KIT. Prof. Barner-Kowollik is an ARC Laureate Fellow and heads a research team focusing on advanced soft matter materials design.
