Griffith Criminology Institute, in partnership with the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research, hosted the fifth annual Applied Research in Crime and Justice Conference.

This conference showcased Australian and international research in the areas of policing, offender rehabilitation, situational crime prevention, corrections, early intervention and criminal justice administration.

The event featured four keynote presentations and 30 concurrent sessions at the Pullman King George Square, across two days. There was a strong GCI representation at the event, with 10 keynote, academic and HDR student presentations combined. GCI academics also chaired every session and the Social Analytics Lab was featured in one of the poster presentations.

Keynote presentations included:

  • The Challenges of Crime Places for Prevention and Theory – Prof John Eck, University of Cincinnati
  • No Room for Drugs: Results of a Randomized Controlled Trial Nudging Hotels to Report Guest-Room ICE Trafficking – Prof Lorraine Mazerolle, University of Queensland
  • The impact of societal and systemic inequalities on youth crime and justice – Prof Susan McVie OBE, University of Edinburgh
  • Overview and Evaluation of a New Interactive Training System for Investigative Interviewers of Children – Prof Martine Powell, Griffith University

The event brought together over 185 delegates including practitioners, academics and NGO’s from around Australia and New Zealand.
