Rebecca McNaught, PhD candidate at the Department of Business Strategy and Innovation, moderated an online webinar for the Commonwealth Local Government Forum on Monday 24 August 2020. The webinar, entitled ‘Sustainable Urbanisation and Small Island Developing States (The Pacific)’, formed part of a series of 11 webinars on various dimensions of sustainable urbanisation which aimed to explore the potential for greater inter-disciplinary, cross-sector collaboration to address the challenges posed by climate change, rapid urbanisation and the recovery from COVID-19.

Sustainable urbanisation and small island developing states webinar, 24 August 2020.

Speakers included urban planners, academics, the acting Secretary General for the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation and local government representatives from across the Pacific region. Commonwealth partners have been working together to promote a Call to Action on sustainable urbanisation in the Commonwealth as part of the preparations for the next Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

Inputs from the online webinar will ensure that the context of the Pacific and small island states are reflected in this Call to Action.

Rebecca will also utilise the transcript of the webinar as part of her PhD on collaborative governance in the Pacific region.
