The Academy of International Business Oceania Chapter Annual Meeting was held in Canberra from 21-22 November 2019, and was co-chaired by Professor Sara McGaughey, Department of Business Strategy and Innovation at Griffith University and Dr Alex Eapen, Research School of Management at Australian National University (ANU).

Keynote speakers included Professor Jean-François Hennart (Tilburg University, Politecnico de Milano, and Vienna University of Economics and Business) and Professor Jiatao (JT) Li (University of Texas), who shared a wealth of industry and scholarly insight.  Participants came from Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, India, Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland and Taiwan.

The Research Symposium on Day 1 saw 25 papers presented and a panel on Writing and responding to reviews. On Day 2, the Paper development workshop opened with a panel on Framing theoretical contributions, followed by round table discussions involving 18 papers and twelve mentors.

As one presenter and workshop participant, Dr Lili Mi, said:

It is my first time attending the AIB Oceania conference. What distinguishes this conference is the intimate discussions and the valuable feedback researchers receive when presenting their work and networking with others. I am thrilled with the amount of questions and feedback I got after my presentation from top journal editors, reviewers and experts of the field.

It is also a great opportunity to hear the most interesting working papers, research topics and interdisciplinary discussions. What I remembered the most are the discussions on how to make theoretical contributions and how to write review responses. As an early career researcher [it’s] extremely encouraging and helpful.
