Adjunct Professor Rod Welford was recently appointed as an Honorary Professor in the Department of Business Strategy and Innovation.

Rod is a thought leader and strategist in energy, sustainability and strategic policy. Originally trained as a lawyer, he practised as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland and a barrister of the High Court of Australia, working as a corporate and commercial litigation lawyer. Widely regarded as a strong policy innovator in government, he saw his role as a public policy ‘designer’, formulating new approaches to the environmental and regulatory challenges of the time.

In 1989, he was elected to the Parliament of Queensland, serving for nearly 20 years as a leading legislator and policy maker. During his career as a Parliamentarian, he has held numerous senior positions in the Government.

Professor Rosemary Stockdale and Dr Rob Hales welcomed Rod at a lunch event on Tuesday 21 May to provide an overview of employment prospects in the area of sustainable business to the sustainable enterprise major students.

“We have a growing number of students undertaking the major indicating renewed interest in sustainable business,” said Dr Hales.

Professor Welford and Dr Hales spoke about recent positive trends in employment.  The event was co-hosted by the Department of Business Strategy and Innovation and the Griffith Centre for Sustainable Enterprise.
